Job Purpose

As a Support Technician, you’ll be at the core of IT operations, providing support to users across all locations. Reporting directly to the Group IT Manager, you’ll be responsible for resolving technical issues and ensuring smooth system operations. Your primary focus will be hands-on desktop support at your main work location, but you’ll also extend your expertise across our network. Key Responsibilities

  • Support Across the Board: Respond promptly to requests for help with software, hardware, network, and telecommunications, ensuring every issue is addressed effectively.
  • System Maintenance: Manage and maintain systems according to company policy, ensuring smooth and secure operations.
  • Service Request Management: Accurately log and track all Service Requests using our Service Desk software, and ensure they’re resolved in line with agreed Service Level targets.
  • Comprehensive IT Support: Provide 1st and 2nd line support services, stepping in to cover additional needs as required.
  • Server and Network Administration: Handle both on-premise and cloud-based server, storage, and network administration tasks as needed.
  • User Management: Administer company users, ensuring proper access, security, and permissions are maintained.
  • Hardware and Software Upgrades: Perform upgrades within group standards to keep our IT environment up-to-date and efficient.
  • Desktop Support: Offer a full range of hardware and software desktop support services to all users, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed.
  • Hardware Lifecycle Management: Prepare new hardware for use and handle the decommissioning and secure disposal of old equipment.
  • Remote Assistance: Conduct remote diagnostics and provide assistance to resolve issues quickly.
  • IT Procurement: Participate in IT procurement processes, ensuring we have the best tools and resources available.
  • Security Focus: Ensure the security of company equipment and data at all times.
  • Collaboration with 3rd Parties: Liaise with third-party support organisations when necessary to maintain high service standards.

Experience

  • Windows Server Expertise: You’re comfortable administering AD, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Networking Know-How: You understand VLANs, Routing, and Layer 3 switches inside out.
  • Office 365 Pro: You’ve supported Office 365, including Exchange Online.
  • Backup & Recovery: You have experience maintaining backup and disaster recovery systems.
  • Virtualisation Wizard: You’re familiar with VMWare and know how to manage virtual environments.
  • SAN Storage Savvy: You’ve worked with SAN storage technologies.
  • Azure Enthusiast: Experience with Azure, especially Azure Backup, is highly valued.
  • Active Directory: You’re skilled in performing user access changes.
  • Microsoft Tech: You’ve administered Microsoft server technologies or Microsoft 365 for end users.
  • ERP Experience: Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP is desirable, but not a dealbreaker.

Qualifications

My client is looking for someone with a solid educational background, whether it’s a Degree or Diploma in IT or a related field in system management. Here’s what will make you stand out:

  • ITIL Foundation: Desired, but not a dealbreaker. It’s a plus if you have it!
  • Certifications: If you have MCDST or MCSA, that’s great, but if you’re eager to train for these certifications, we’re ready to support you.
  • Relevant IT Certifications: Show us your expertise with any applicable IT certifications that demonstrate your skills and commitment to the field
