moira” is currently working in partnership with a respected and forward-thinking manufacturing organisation to recruit an experienced Mechanical Supervisor for their site in Chirnside.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated mechanical professional who is looking to take the next step in their career and play a key role in leading, developing, and supporting a skilled maintenance team.
The Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. You will be a visible and hands-on leader, driving performance, reliability, and continuous improvement across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and supervise the mechanical maintenance team, including technicians, apprentices, and contractors.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture and ensure full compliance with company and legal standards.
- Plan and coordinate preventative, corrective, and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Maintain a rolling four-day work plan and ensure timely completion of work orders using the site CMMS.
- Carry out regular H&S inspections and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Support team development through training, coaching, and performance management.
- Manage workload, attendance, and performance in collaboration with HR.
- Attend site meetings and provide regular progress updates to key stakeholders.
- Monitor mechanical downtime and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Manage and assess contractor performance and compliance.
- Balance office-based planning with hands-on engineering support as required.
The Ideal Candidate
Our client is seeking a proactive and approachable leader with strong technical knowledge and people management skills.
You will ideally have:
- A time-served mechanical engineering background or equivalent qualification (HNC/HND preferred).
- Proven supervisory or team leadership experience within a manufacturing, process, or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices and health & safety legislation.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
- Experience using CMMS systems such as MX or similar.
- A practical, solution-focused approach and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
