Electrical Shift Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Electrical Maintenance Technician to join a well-established manufacturing site with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on role for an electrically qualified professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced industrial environment, keeping plant and equipment running safely and efficiently.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for maintaining the electrical integrity and performance of site assets, ensuring machinery and systems operate safely, reliably, and in line with regulatory standards.

Initially, you’ll receive close support and training. Once competent, you’ll work with a high level of autonomy as part of a skilled engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical systems across industrial plant and machinery
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules and OEM guidance
  • Respond to breakdowns and unplanned faults using structured fault-finding techniques
  • Use diagnostic tools including megger testing, loop testing, thermography, and motor/VSD analysis
  • Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Install, commission, and modify low-voltage and 400V distribution systems, MCCs, and safety systems
  • Carry out safe isolations and lock-off/tag-out (LOTO) procedures
  • Maintain accurate records on the site CMMS
  • Support EC&I Engineers with PLC, SCADA, and control system interfaces
  • Work closely with production teams to improve OEE and equipment reliability
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and energy efficiency projects
  • Support apprentices and junior engineers through knowledge sharing and training
  • Attend tier meetings and contribute to site performance discussions

Health, Safety & Compliance

Safety is central to this role. You’ll be expected to:

  • Work in full compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations and BS 7671
  • Follow all site H&S procedures and “Take 5” assessments
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organised work areas
  • Champion best practice across the site

What They’re Looking For

Essential

  • Completed recognised electrical apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • Strong experience working with 400V three-phase systems, motors, drives, and control panels
  • Proven fault-finding and diagnostic ability in an industrial environment
  • Solid understanding of electrical safety regulations and best practice
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Organised, proactive, and able to prioritise workload effectively

Desirable

  • Experience using CMMS systems (SAP, Maximo, Infor, etc.)
  • Exposure to high-voltage systems (training available)
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control circuits
  • Awareness of energy efficiency and reliability improvement techniques
